How to make marijuana tea

How to make marijuana tea?

First, it’s important to know that just like with weed coffee, there is no one right way to make a cup of cannabis tea.

There are many different routes to take to arrive at the same destination: a delicious infused herbal, medicinal cannabis tea.

Whether you’re making stem tea or a cannabis tisane (herbal tea), as outlined below, you’re going to want to be sure you decarboxylate your flower first.

The simple process of cannabis decarboxylation must occur before preparing the dried flower buds or stems of the cannabis plant to reap the benefits of activated CBD or THC.

How to make marijuana tea

If you were to prepare your tea by simply pouring warm water over a dried or raw cannabis bud, it is unlikely that you will feel any strong intoxicating effects of THC.

This is because raw cannabis does not naturally contain high amounts of CBD or THC, instead it contains what is known as cannabinoid acids.

Cannabinoid acids, known as CBDA and THCA, have potential health benefits – but they are not intoxicating in nature (meaning you won’t get high).

If you are looking for the health benefits of CBDA and THCA, you can skip the decarboxylation process.

Making cannabis tea is a very easy process. Users find this is a relaxing alternative to smoking. The high is mellowed but the medical effect lasts much longer. We explain the details behind cannabis tea, and give a quick and easy recipe to make it.

Cannabis tea is rapidly becoming popular (again). Many regular cannabis users drink tea as an alternative to both edibles and concentrates.

Making cannabis tea can be as simple or as complex as you want. It is not exactly like making regular tea, but the end result is worth it.

In general, the effects of drinking cannabis via tea are milder than inhaling it. That does not mean it does not have a powerful effect. You can obtain the same effects as smoking a joint if you drink enough of the tea. Effects last longer, however (up to 8 hours).

The effect of the drink is to calm people down and relieve pain. Queen Victoria of England reportedly drank canna tea to relieve menstrual cramps.

The process for making effective (medical) marijuana tea requires preparation. THC can be extracted by boiling cannabis bud. However, adding alcohol, butter, oil or milk in the water is required, as THC is not water soluble, but can bind to fats and oil. These substances help dissolve the THC into your tea. Our recipe for cannabis tea will tell you exactly how to do so.

Marijuana tea #1

45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • ½ gram cannabis buds
  • ½ teaspoon butter
  • 1 tea bag (any variety)
  • 1½ cups water
  • Optional: sugar or honey to taste

Instructions:

1. Grind the cannabis. Separate out stems. Mix the buds with the butter. Make sure the cannabis is completely covered in fat. Empty the tea bag into the bud mix. Mix it with the butter and cannabis. You can place the mixture back into the bag and reseal it. A better option is using a tea ball. Zamnesia’s Tea Infuser is also great kitchen aid for this purpose.

2. Bring the water to a simmering boil in a saucepan. Lower the tea ball or infuser into the water. Let the saucepan simmer for 30 minutes. If the water looks as if it is getting low, add more water during the cook time.

3. Let sit until cool enough to drink. If plant matter got out of the teabag/infuser, be sure to strain the tea before consumption.

Marijuana tea is a soothing drink made by steeping ground cannabis buds in hot water. When consumed, the treat releases THC into your body and imparts a calming high that is perfect for pain or stress relief. Marijuana use is a criminal offense in many parts of the world, so only partake if the drug is legal in your area.

Simple Marijuana Tea

  • 1/2 gram marijuana buds
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter
  • Tea bag (any flavor)
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • Optional sugar or honey

Instructions:

  • Grind the marijuana buds. Separate out the stems and seeds if necessary, and use a grinder or chop up the buds with a sharp knife until they’re finely chopped, but not completely powdered. Mix the buds with butter. Place them together in a bowl and use a spoon to mix up the buds and butter, making sure each piece is coated with fat. You want the grounds to be completely coated, but not soaked in butter; too much will inhibit the release of THC.
  • Note: If you want a potent marijuana tea it’s necessary to extract the THC from the plant. Since THC is not soluble in water alone it requires a fatty substance to cling onto under high heat. The combination of the high heat from the hot water and the fat from the butter removes the THC from the ground buds and allows you to ingest it.
  • Empty a tea bag and fill it with the marijuana butter mixture. Use scissors to cut off the top of the bag, then empty the contents. Spoon the ground marijuana into the bag, then fold it over several times to keep the marijuana from spilling out. \If you have a metal tea ball, you can use that instead.
  • Or use a coffee filter: place the marijuana in the center of the filter, then gather the edges and tie it up to make a little bag.
  • Bring the water to a simmer on the stove. Pour it into a small pan and place it over medium-high heat, so that it comes to a simmer but not a full boil.
  • Simmer the teabag in the water for 30 minutes. Reduce the heat if the mixture starts to boil. If the water is getting low, add a little more so it doesn’t completely evaporate.
  • ·Take it off the heat and remove the teabag. The marijuana tea will be very hot so be careful and let it cool for 5 minutes. If you want flavored tea, add another teabag of your choice during the last three minutes of simmering.
  • Stir in sugar or honey to taste, then enjoy. As with most marijuana products consumed orally, tea takes 45-60 minutes to come into full effect. Note: Even with only a 1/2 gram, this tea will create a strong high.

Marijuana Chai Latte

  • 1/2 gram marijuana buds
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter
  • 1 chai tea bag
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons sugar

Instructions:

  • Grind the marijuana buds. Separate out the stems and seeds if necessary, and use a grinder or chop up the buds with a sharp knife until they’re finely chopped, but not completely powdered.
  • ·Blend the marijuana, milk, butter, and vanilla. Place the ingredients in a blender and blend until completely smooth.
  •  Let the mixture rest for an hour. This gives the flavors a chance to meld.
  • Add the water and simmer the mixture for 30 minutes. Monitor the pan carefully to make sure it doesn’t begin to boil or evaporate away. Add more water if necessary to keep the level of liquid constant.
  • Remove it from heat and add the chai teabag. Steep the teabag for five minutes. During this time the tea will begin to cool.
  • Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve. Place the sieve (or a piece of cheesecloth) over a bowl and pour the tea through to remove the tiny pieces of bud. You can skip this step if you don’t mind their texture.
  • Pour the tea into a mug and enjoy. Stir in sugar and more milk to taste. For an extra-indulgent drink, add a dollop of whipped cream topped with a sprinkling of cinnamon.
  • Note: Even with only a 1/2 gram, this tea will create a strong high.

Marijuana Herbal Tea

  • 1/2 gram marijuana buds
  • 1 cup water
  • Tea bag (any flavor)
  • Optional sugar or honey

Instructions:

  • Grind the marijuana buds. Separate out the stems and seeds if necessary, and use a grinder or chop up the buds with a sharp knife until they’re finely chopped, but not completely powdered
  • Empty a tea bag and fill it with the marijuana. Use scissors to cut off the top of the bag, then empty the contents. Spoon the ground marijuana into the bag, then fold it over several times to keep the marijuana from spilling out.  If you have a metal tea ball, you can use that instead. Or use a coffee filter: place the marijuana in the center of the filter, then gather the edges and tie it up to make a little bag.
  • Put the tea bag in a coffee mug. Add a second regular teabag if you want to enhance the flavor. Earl Grey, Irish breakfast, or flavored herbal teas all taste great.
  • Boil a cup of hot water. You can do it either on the stove or in the microwave.
  • Pour the water into the mug and let the tea steep for three to five minutes. The longer it steeps, the deeper the flavor of the tea will be.
  • Remove the tea bags and drink the tea. Stir in sugar, honey or milk to taste.

OTHER RIFFS ON THE SAME IDEA

In India, there is a drink similar (but not quite the same) in nature called Bhang. It is served to guests at parties. When served, it is also mixed with other spices like cinnamon and sugar. When using milk instead of using butter, replace one-third of the water with milk, it is also possible to make very tasty Chai with cannabis.  Also, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Add this to the ground cannabis in a blender. Then place it in a saucepan to heat with additional water. Make sure that the milk never boils. You will need to cook this for about 30 minutes. Make sure to also adding water to make sure the pot does not boil dry. Add cinnamon and sugar to taste when done.

Note: Plain marijuana tea has a nice herbal flavor but will not produce a high since it’s necessary to extract the THC using fat to get the full effect. If you want potent marijuana tea, use a different method.

  1. Marijuana tea is the absolute best for medical use. I drink one cup of tea and have it relieve my symptoms for at least 6 hours. Not a really strong tea either. Its effects took between 1-1.5 hours and it sneaks up on you. You may not notice anything “happen” rather you may notice a few hours later, hey I’m not in pain.

  2. Drinking marijuana tea can give you all the medicinal effects you’re after, and you don’t get the smoke in your lungs—or the smell on your breath. It’s great if you happen to have a sore throat or something like that. When I’m down, a steaming hot cup of this tea drops my pain level down to where I can actually function like a human being! I think it would be perfect, too, for people who are non-smokers but still need pain relief!
