Сannasugar is easy!

Here’s a very simple recipe for making cannabis infused sugar! Cannasugar, (also known as weed, marijuana or pot infused sugar), can be used just like real sugar easily making just about anything medicated! Stir a spoonful into your coffee or tea, add to your favorite cookie or candy recipe, the choices are endless!

It is best to try this cannasugar recipe is some fresh, good quality cannabis. Experimenting with different strains will produce sugars with unique flavors that can be tailored to your needs. If you are in a legal state and have a medical marijuana card, you can easily buy a gram or 2 of a few different strains to see which you like the most.

This cannasugar recipe easily scales up or down, so feel free to make as much as you want! Potency can be reduced for those wanting less, simply use either less cannabis to fit your personal needs. You can also experiment with different strains which can add their own flavors and aromas to your final product.

Sugar does not dissolve very well in high proof alcohols. You can remedy this by making a quick syrup of sugar and water and then adding the alcohol to that. (This is my preferred method.) the only downside is that drying can take a bit longer due to the water content.

Sugar will dissolve much better in alcohol that has a higher water content (i.e. lower proof). Higher proof alcohols will do a better extraction of the cannabis versus the lower proof alcohols, and will not get as green.

If you don’t care about the color you can do the extraction with a lower proof. You can also minimize the color by water curing your flower first. Keep your cannasugar stored in an airtight container in a cool dark place and it will probably last forever.

Cannasugar Recipe Ingredients

  • 1/8 oz. (3.5gr) cannabis flowers, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 cup (100gr) white sugar or turbinado sugar
  • 2/3 cup (150ml)

Any drinkable alcohol – you can get creative with flavors! ->

**Do Not Use Isopropyl Alcohol**

  1. The day before you plan to make your sugar, place the alcohol in the freezer and let it sit overnight.
  2. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees F (120C). Place your coarsely chopped cannabis in a small shallow dish, like a pie plate (glass if you have it). Cover tightly with 2 layers of aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove and allow to cool completely.
  3. Transfer the now decarboxylated flower into a Mason jar. Pour the alcohol in to the jar and ensure the cannabis is completely covered.
  4. Put the lid on the jar and swirl gently to agitate. Place the jar in the freezer for 10 minutes, gently swirling to mix every 2 minutes.
  5. After 10 minutes, remove the jar from the freezer and strain through a coffee filter into the clean pie plate you used previously.
  6. Add the sugar and stir until completely dissolved.* Alternatively, you can combine the alcohol mixture and the sugar in the cleaned Mason jar and then pour the resulting mixture into the shallow dish.
  7. Place the pie plate on an electric griddle with the temperature set to low. Alternatively, you can use a heating pad. Using a small fan to provide good air circulation, let the mixture sit undisturbed until no more alcohol remains. You can always feel free to just let it sit and evaporate on its own as well if you’re not in a hurry.
  8. Gather the remaining cannabis infused sugar from the dish making sure to break up larger pieces. 30 seconds with a mortar & pestle or a few pulses in a blender will break up any lumps if you want.
  9. Store the sugar in an airtight storage container until ready for use.

 * Sugar does not dissolve very well in high proof Ethanol, like Everclear. To speed up the process, you can dissolve the sugar in an equal part of water until a syrup is formed. Then mix the syrup with the alcohol.

3.5gr of cannabis containing 25% THC will yield approximately 800mg of THC in your final product. This recipe will yield about 25-30 teaspoons of sugar, giving it an average THC content of approximately 20-25mg per tsp. Make sure you measure your batch to see exactly how much you have before performing the potency calculation.

  • Remember, Ethanol vapors are extremely flammable and are heavier than air. Avoid sources of ignition. Using a gas oven is not recommended due to the potential for fire or explosion.
  • A note on grinding: grinding your flower finely will produce a much greener looking and tasting sugar. To avoid this, simply break the buds apart with your fingers into pea sized pieces.
  • Save the leftover buds! There’s still some cannabinoids present in them. Let them air dry and they can be used for infusing coconut oil, or simply grind them up and put into gelcaps for consumption.

Want an even cleaner look and taste?

Water Cure your flower first! After decarbing your flower in the oven, put it into a mason jar and fill with reverse-osmosis distilled water. Place the jar in the refrigerator. When the water begins to darken from the color leeching out of the buds, gently empty the colored liquid and replace with clean water; at least once a day.

Continue this process until color no longer leeches out of the buds. Depending on numerous factors, this process can take anywhere from 3-12 days. Once achieved, dry your cannabis using any quick dry method you prefer. Water curing removes all the water-soluble material from the plant leaving you some rather dull, lifeless looking buds. That’s OK though, its now even more potent by weight due to the loss of extraneous materials you didn’t want in your sugar.

Using water cured flower in your cannasugar recipe will produce a sugar that is still mostly white and without hardly any plant tastes at all.
